Eminent scientist, magician and astrologer Dr. Faustus
sold his soul to the Devil in exchange for a lifetime
of success and high living; every pleasure was his and
all knowledge was at his command. When the devil
came to collect Faustus’ soul, Faustus would not repent
even though he could have negated the contract. In
this painting, Faustus pours water on the Devil and
dissolves the contract. We can change our fate by not
being stubborn and by asking for forgiveness when we
make a mistake or bad choice.
